Writing the Future: How Letters 4 Legacy Supports the WGA & SAG–AFTRA

In an act of solidarity with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), we at Letters-4-Legacy stand alongside our fellow creators and actors during the ongoing strikes. As we advocate for the realization of Star Trek: Legacy, it’s a fitting coincidence that our mission of writing letters for our beloved potential series launched just a day before the WGA strike began. Now we find ourselves in a position not only to influence the future of Star Trek, but also to support the brilliant minds and talent who have made Star Trek possible.

One of our most active members, Willy Wong, created a powerful visual representation of this solidarity titled “STRIKE.” The poster showcases a futuristic pen, the writer’s weapon of choice, shattering a formidable Klingon Kur’Leth. This image underlines the power of the written word and without the creative minds of writers, the rich universe of Star Trek and its characters would cease to exist.

Our support for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA embodies the spirit of Star Trek itself – unity in the face of adversity, respect for all life forms, and the pursuit of a future where all individuals are valued for their contributions. Remember, if our mission to convince Paramount+ to produce Star Trek: Legacy succeeds, it will be the writers and actors who transport us to the new frontiers of the 25th century.

Here’s how you can support the WGA and SAG-AFTRA:

  • Stay informed about the strike: Understand the reasons behind the strike and the demands of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. Share accurate information to raise awareness.
  • Social media support: Amplify the voices of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA by sharing messages of support or informational posts. Use hashtags like #WGAStrike,#WGAStrong, #SAGAFTRAStike, #SAGAFTRAStrong.
  • Support physical picket lines: Show your solidarity by bringing food, water, or other supplies to the writers on the front lines of the strike. If you don’t live in the L.A. area you can support remotely by joining the Star Trek Strike Snack Squad.

If you choose to include support for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA in your #Letters4Legacy, maintain a positive, professional tone. Here’s an example of how you might express your solidarity:

“Dear Mr. Ryan,

As a passionate Star Trek fan, I am writing in strong support of Star Trek: Legacy. I believe that this series has the potential to continue the legacy of this beloved franchise and inspire a new generation of viewers.

However, I am also writing as a supporter of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) . Their current strike underscores the importance of fair treatment and compensation for the brilliant minds and talents who bring our favorite stories to life. I stand with them in their pursuit of a fair and equitable resolution to the current dispute.

As we eagerly anticipate exploring new frontiers in the 25th century with Star Trek: Legacy, we remember that it will be the words of the writers that will take us there. I hope that Paramount+ will soon be able to collaborate with them once again.

Sincerely,

 [Your Name]”

“The Legacy of the Future Awaits…” and it’s the writers who will guide us there. Our collective action now can ensure they are fairly treated to do so.
